The language arts curriculum provides guided reading, shared reading and independent reading experiences. Students write in journals and engage in creative writing activities. The classrooms are rich in language experiences. The math program is based on Quest 2000 with the introduction of Integrations at the Grade Four level. Manipulatives are an integral part of the math program. Concepts are introduced and explored with many different materials and then recorded.
The science curriculum uses the scientific method to make discoveries and record findings and incorporates the outside school environment in its programs. Fine arts programs play an important part in the development of self-confidence, self-expression, creativity and higher level cognitive processing therefore students receive instruction in music, art, drama and creative movement.
Commencing at primary students receive French language instruction, physical education classes, and music classes twice per week. Art, drama and creative movement classes are taught once a week as well as being integrated into the classroom curriculum. A creative arts night showcases the students achievements.
A partnership with Madeline Symonds Middle School has resulted in reading buddies between a grade six class and the primary and junior classes and chess buddies between a grade five class and the senior class.
